Sirkka Rukoilija

The work starts by studying macho movement in popular culture & music. Through bodily repetition, exhaustion and choreographic deconstruction of these movement and gestural principles an insect like movement material is created. This serves as a land scape of the witchy character called Sirkka Rukoilija.

The work looks into sexism and misogyny in pop culture, and experiments with ways to deal with the objectifying and defining patriarchal gaze. In the work rhythms, rhymes, spells, poems and prayers get strong and exhaustingly physical bodily forms. The name Sirkka Rukoilija is a wordplay from rukoilijasirkka (fin) which is an insect, scientific name mantis religiosa.
